Saturn in Aries (2025-2028 period)

You should receive this post in your inboxes right at the moment Saturn moves from the sign of Pisces to the sign of Aries, thus by the time you are reading it, Saturn will have ingressed into Aries. Saturn will be back in Aries after more than 26 years. It would be there for close to 3 years, though in between, from September 2025 till mid-February 2026, it would retrograde back to Pisces, resolving issues of power and structure that it left undone when in Pisces.

In astrology, Saturn is considered an excessively cold and dry planet. (That is the reason it is a malefic, as highly cold and dry conditions are not suitable to earthly life, which prospers, rather, in temperate, warm and moist conditions.) Saturn is all about restriction, justice, equilibrium, checks and controls, discipline and boundaries. After all, before Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were discovered, it was the outermost planet of our solar system, and thus in traditional astrology served the purpose of setting the bounds of the solar system. Saturn takes a long time to orbit around the Sun. It is slow. Thus, Saturn can represent noble attributes such as patience, gravitas, self-control and steadfastness. It can also represent other restrictive conditions of life, such as poverty, old age, imprisonment and morbidity. Saturn usually also stands for anything built or designed to last for a long time: thus, states, governments, buildings, etc., come under its ambit. When you give an astrologer the task to choose the right moment to build something that is desired to last for a long, long time, the astrologer will try to ensure that Saturn is doing as well in a chart as possible under the circumstances. Now, this very Saturn is going to move into Aries.

The fiery and fast action-driven sign of Aries, where the action planet of Mars finds its domicile and the giver of vitality Sun exalts, is thus a sign where cold and slow Saturn is not at all comfortable: in astrological terms, Saturn is in its fall here. Aries is a sign associated with initiative, action, energy, wanting to burst forth and do something, just like how the buds burst forth in the first month of spring, when the Sun is in the sign of Aries every year. Saturn wants to inhibit, whereas Aries gives the environment of wanting to grow. This incompatibility will mean certain significant challenges for the world. The context in which it will do so would be Pluto, a planet signifying radical reset, in the sign of Aquarius, a sign of collectivities and social networks; Neptune, a planet signifying idealism as much as vague dreaminess, illusion and utopian ideologies, also in Aries (and at almost the same position as Saturn till early 2026); and Uranus, a planet signifying sudden, dramatic change, moving soon into the sign of Gemini, a sign of overactive communication and intellectualism. Imagine this cocktail well, and you would have understood how the next few years would go. (Reading my Neptune in Aries post, written last year, may help you somewhat further.)

We start with physical phenomena. Saturn is the durability of structures, buildings, earth. With Saturn in fall, and with all that cocktail, I anticipate quite a few severe earthquakes in the world during this period. The influence of Saturn, on account of its coldness, in a chart is also correlated with cold weather and rains, thus while rains may fall with extreme force (Aries: force) in some places, rains may also be very deficient in many other places (Aries + Saturn: extreme dryness). Overall, a very imbalanced climate should manifest itself, with both droughts and floods troubling the world in unusual places: that is, it may rain with force where it doesn't usually, and it may not rain much where it does, or it may rain earlier than when it does but stop, too, much earlier than when it does in general in a given region.

Then we move on to human affairs. Saturn represents governments and leaders (especially old and/or serious leaders). Thus, I anticipate a few of the leaders, especially those who are old, to fall from power or fall gravely sick or even die during this period. Saturn represents boundaries, thus questions on borders would emerge as prominent during this time. New borders may be created and redrawn. Saturn is also considered the natural ruler of some countries such as India (in particular, northwestern India), Iran, Greece and Mexico as well as some of the Balkan countries, and it strongly affects the course of history in Russia and China (as I detailed in this post). Thus, one could expect, again with all the cocktail above described, some major events for these countries.

Communication technology, for example, the world of artificial intelligence (AI), should make extraordinary, surprising advances during this period, some of which may prove to be lasting: for the Uranus in Gemini would be (dur)ably supported by a sextile aspect from the Saturn in Aries. Communication is however not only about telecommunication: it can also mean advances in space science, shipping routes or even something like skincare (for skin is also an interface of communication). Medical science on ageing may also see some sudden breakthrough.

Saturn also rules science, wisdom and religion. Thus, with Saturn in its fall, and especially with the above cocktail, one could expect troubles in the world of religion or in the name of religion. Expect religious violence and terrorism in the name of religion or caused by differences of faith. However, at the same time, one may also expect some of those who exploit religion for the purposes of their power to rise and fall: old ones may fall, and new ones may take their place. In short, an immense churn. It is interesting that the Pope should die just before Saturn enters Aries: it is good that the new Pope has been able to take his functions before May 25. Science and technology, too, may be misused for gaining power, especially by big corporations, given that Pluto in Aquarius would help this, and Neptune in Aries would mean that technology would help sending people to customised delusional spaces, which would help consolidate further the power of tech firms and tech magnates.

Saturn also rules things having to do with the earth (land), such as farming, mining and construction. While I anticipate major mining and construction accidents could take place during this period, but new mining initiatives may also be taken up, and old mines and quarries may be reopened or revitalised, especially iron and coal. It is not a coincidence that in the U.S., President Trump is talking of reviving the coal mining sector just as Saturn, the planet that rules black and hard things, is entering Aries, the sign of initiative taking. A lot of production of things made in iron and steel may happen: for example, ships, naval vessels, and a majority of military equipment, right from ammunition to missiles, bunkers and armoured vehicles. Nuclear reactors, mining machinery and rail cars, too, use a lot of steel, so you get an idea of what sectors could be about to boom.

When talking of individual birth charts, it is difficult to generalise, for each chart is a unique package, and generalisation can lead to inappropriate reductive simplification. With that in mind, for quite some of the people who have their Sun, Saturn or several planets (especially those from the traditional seven) concentrated in the signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and/or Capricorn, this period may bring some momentous events in their lives. They could be events that initially bring discipline (for Saturn disciplines), that is, negative events, as much as events that bring glory and achievement (for Saturn rewards, too, handsomely, if one has been disciplined and has been working hard): the myth that "Saturn is bad" is a very wrong myth which is surprisingly found even among some practising astrologers. What Saturn would "do" shall depend on two things: what is its condition in your birth chart, and have you merited Saturn to reward you? Where it would "do" these would depend on which houses are activated by Saturn in your chart: houses it rules, house it occupies and houses occupied by and ruled by any planet in tight conjunction, opposition or square with Saturn.

I hope that those who are not so well familiar with astrology can now understand Saturn well and can extrapolate its correlation with other human affairs and the natural world. In case you still want an additional clue, then think of Colonel Nicholson in the David Lean classic The Bridge on the River Kwai. He is quite a noble, well dignified Saturn there. Obsessed with order, structure, discipline, a bit stern and dry. Alec Guinness wanted to play a more sympathetic Nicholson with humour and niceness: thankfully, Lean would have none of it, thus giving us a quite good example of Saturn in the charts. And if you are wondering what Colonel Saito would be, well he would be a Mars in fall, the signature of many a bully. Mars rules Aries. Nicholson in Saito’s camp was thus quite how the world would be for the next three years: Saturn in Mars’ camp. It is not a compatible setup.
