On Zohran Mamdani's 2025 bid to become New York City Mayor

Zohran Mamdani is on the verge of becoming New York City's new mayor, the first Muslim and first Indian-American to be NYC's mayor. Former New York State governor Andrew Cuomo has conceded the Democratic primary, though he has not ruled out standing in the election as an independent.

More about Mamdani later, but first a bit about the Democrats, who have been kind of clueless about how to attract voters, in particular new voters. The strongly socialist Mamdani's win against centrist Cuomo may shine a light on how to do it. Charisma, campaigns aimed at the youth, and not balking off from being politically incorrect or from speaking your mind. The Democrats made this mistake back in 2016 itself, when they went with Hillary Clinton even though Sanders appealed to many youth, and since then have kept on sticking with career politicians and centrism, even against the challenge of Trump, part of whose appeal to his voters lies in the very fact that he is not a career politician. The likes of Biden and Cuomo don't appeal to the young. It is not about age: it is about energy and fresh perspectives. In the age of social media, this is a worldwide phenomenon. If it were about age, 64-year-old Ko Wen-je would not have been so wildly popular among the youth in Taiwan in last year's Presidential elections. Given the lack of integrity found among politicians, people would rather take a gamble on a fresh face, thinking that it can't be as bad as the career politicians whom they have come to distrust massively.

Mamdani's win reminds me of what I had predicted back in May 2024 regarding the future of the Democrats, and similar parties stuck in centrism, for the 2024-2038 period:

".. a lot of currently centre-left or right-of-centre parties to go over the edge towards a more strident socialism and activist mode (e.g., the Democrats in the U.S. ...)."

The brand of politics that Mamdani, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and similar leaders espouse has a bright future in the U.S. (I don't know if Ocasio-Cortez's birth data is available, so haven't had a look at her astrologically, but I had a look at her hands quite some time back, and they promise good success later on in life as well as now. I remember I had predicted, based on her hands, a great mini-period between the ages of 36 and 44 for her, and she is now what, 35?)

As the years accelerate, this would mean that either the Democrats accept the strident socialism of Sanders, Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez, as the new reality and move on from the Clinton-Pelosi-Biden careerist centrism, or they split, probably joining hands with disgruntled Republicans. The U.S. anyway needs to present more options to its voters than just two parties, and, as I have said earlier, in the same post as referenced earlier, it is also likely that within the next decade or so, the U.S. may have more viable political parties to choose from at the voting urn.

Now going back to Mamdani, I do foresee some kind of a hiccup, so I am not taking Mamdani as already the NYC mayor. Mamdani's birth chart, with the data given here, based on memory and an Ascendant right on the cusp of a sign, is not very useful from the point of view of chart delineation, given that even a minute's change in the birth time would change a lot in that chart. However, one could still make a midpoint study, which would not rely so much on the accuracy of birth time up to the minute. Just to verify that the time for Mamdani is not too much off, I looked at early 2025, and it is indeed showing reinforcement of a loving relationship at that time. Mamdani married Syrian artist Rama Duwaji in early 2025. It is not known when they met each other or he had feelings of love for her for the first time, but from the charts I would venture to guess somewhere around June-July 2021. (Maybe someone who knows Mamdani well and happens to read this can let me know if this was indeed the case.)

Anyway, so using only the midpoints, I do see that Mamdani has had great transits going on recently, especially since November 2024 or so. His strong, unexpected success in the political sphere in recent months can be seen in the charts. The month of November 2025, in which the New York general election results are supposed to come out, also looks promising. (Given that Cuomo has conceded, I am assuming Mamdani winning the Democratic primary, whose results will take several days as yet to come out from when I am writing this.)

The issue is with the time around October 2025, a month or so before the election results date. That month doesn't look great to me for Mamdani. It may be a troublesome month for him. It may bring some kind of scandal or controversy, or even a bereavement, injury or sorrowful circumstance. I am more concerned about what if there is some kind of scandal or controversy. Given his background and outspokenness on things like the Netanyahu government in Israel, and some of his past, any big controversy could suddenly swing the election against him. Even early voting for the general election is scheduled only from October 25, 2025, and by then things may have become difficult for him.

If Mamdani can overcome whatever this is in October or thereabouts, then it's looking good for him in November 2025. But he has to overcome it, it may be a tough circumstance. As I cannot rely on Mamdani's birth chart houses (given that the Ascendant is on the cusp, and the birth data is only from memory and a round figure) and am completely relying only on his midpoint chart, and in addition I do not have birth data of his rivals in the elections, I cannot predict better than this. But a hiccup or some kind of problem may be there in October 2025 or so. Whether he is able to rise above the October 2025 potential circumstance or not remains to be seen.

Ideally, Mamdani would be better served to travel on his birthday to Kampala (Uganda), his birthplace, as that would help his charts more than being in NYC. (Sometimes, it is better to travel on one's birthday to a more suitable location, which would realign the coming year's events: this may not always make a big difference, and anyway can never go against the natal promise, but one can always try in those years when you want a particular thing very badly or when a chart is looking very bad that year.) However, fighting an election whose voting is days away, I don't think Mamdani could do any travel outside of NY State, if he were to want to follow such advice.

Mamdani, though, doesn't only have October 2025 to contend with. He has a further and far more difficult period coming up in the near future: that would be somewhere around November 2026. That would be one year into his mayoralty, if he does end up becoming NYC's mayor. There is some kind of clash, anger and aggression strongly indicated on the charts for Mamdani around November 2026.
