Bosnia: on the verge of another civil war?

Bosnia: on the verge of another civil war?

I will keep this post brief. I can go into flights of fantasy, but when something can be explained far more simply, then that is what one ought to do, rather than weave ornate designs just to impress the naïve.

Saturn rules the Bosnia-Herzegovina geographical region. Do note I mean the region, not the ethnicities living in this region (Bosniaks, Serbs, Croats, etc.). The region is ruled by Saturn, and thus let us have a brief look at the history of the region through Saturn's lens. It is important to do so now, for in a day or so from the time of writing this, Saturn will have entered Aries, the prominent zodiac sign of war and aggression and the sign of Saturn's fall.

We could go into prehistory even, but let's go only as far back as the Ottoman control of the region. In 1386, when the Ottoman attacks on the Bosnian region started, Saturn was in Cancer, in detriment. In 1415, when Sandalj Hranić, who controlled today's eastern Herzegovina, became an Ottoman vassal, Saturn was yet again in Cancer. Then, in 1451, the Ottomans could finally form some kind of an administrative unit there, when Saturn was in Libra (the sign of its exaltation). At the time of the Battle of Ključ in May 1463, Saturn was in Aquarius (its domicile), exactly opposite Pluto in Leo, with Sun-Mercury conjunction at the midpoint of this opposition. No wonder that Bosnia finally fell to the Ottomans at this point. In 1481, when the last fortress in Herzegovina that had been holding out so far fell to the Ottomans, Saturn was again in Aquarius, as it was in 1580, when the eyalet or beylerbelik of Bosnia was formed under the Ottomans. (Saturn also played a strong role in the Ottoman empire's history, which is best exemplified by the fall of Constantinople, which happened when Saturn was in exaltation in Libra. But we not discussing Ottoman or Turkish history in this post.)

That Pluto acts as a toggle switch (wiping out the old and bring in the new) is very much evident from the Treaty of Karlowitz, signed in January 1699, with a Saturn-Pluto opposition again occurring across Aquarius-Leo zodiac signs. But while in 1463, the Ottomans had gained power from this, this time, 236 years later, they lost much power. (It is to be noted that on 14 July 1683, when the Great Turkish War began, which ended in a big defeat for the Ottomans, Saturn was in Leo, another sign of its detriment, and conjunct with Jupiter, the planet associated with Alpine lands, a strong component of the Holy League with which the Ottomans were fighting. The Holy League itself was established on 5 March 1684, when the Sun was in the Jupiter-ruled sign of Pisces and Jupiter-Mercury had an excellent mutual reception, promising success to the League, even if both Jupiter and Mercury were retrograde. To note that at the time of the League's formation, Saturn was still in Leo at an anaretic degree, and also retograde, showing the weakness of the Ottomans.) The treaty led to what is called the "saving of Europe," that is, not only a stop to the Ottoman juggernaut but a decline, and the Ottoman Eyalet of Bosnia itself lost territory.

Let us focus back on Bosnia. On 18 September 1739, the Treaty of Belgrade was signed, favourable for the Ottomans, with Bosnian-Serbian areas back with the Ottomans. Saturn was in Cancer yet again, recapping Ottoman gain at the expense of Bosnians-Serbs like it had happened in 1415. As Saturn enters its exaltation in Libra in 1833, the Ottoman eyalet of Herzegovina gets formed. (Meanwhile, the Serbian Revolution, which would pave the way for the establishment of an independent Serbian state, was bookended by a Saturn in exaltation (Libra) in 1804 and a Saturn in domicile (Aquarius) in 1817. When the first Constitution was adopted by the Principality of Serbia in 1835, Saturn was once again exalted, in Libra. But we aren't focusing on Serbia here.)

On 19 June 1875, the Herzegovina uprising began, leading to what is called as the Great Eastern Crisis. Saturn was in domicile, in Aquarius, plus in its own bound, and in tight aspect to a Mars-Sun opposition as well as in trine with Jupiter from Libra. The crisis would end in a resounding defeat for the Ottomans, and the signing of the Treaty of Berlin was done on 13 July 1878, when Saturn was in the sign of its fall, Aries. The Ottomans lost a lot of territory with the signing of this treaty, also leading to the recognition of Serbia as an independent country, but which wasn't as great for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which were ceded (not formally though) by the Ottomans to the Austro-Hungarians. The next time that Saturn would be in Aries, in 1908, is when the formal annexation would be done (the so-called First Balkan Crisis), which would eventually lead to the First World War.

Once the Great War ended, on 1 December 1918, the state of Yugoslavia was born, with Saturn in detriment, in Leo, and, very importantly, opposed by Uranus. Both Uranus and Saturn are in the bounds of Mars at this time, with Mars being in Saturn-ruled Capricorn and in very tight opposition with Jupiter. The state would last until Germans invade it in April 1941, as Mars opposes Pluto tightly and another Saturn-Jupiter conjunction happens. As the Second World War ended, on 29 November 1945, the monarchy was abolished, and a new socialist state of Yugoslavia was born, with Saturn in Cancer and on contra-antiscion of the Sun. Both Saturn and Sun find themselves in the bounds of Jupiter, which is in a sign of its triplicity and in its own bound.

Now let us look at recent events of history in greater detail. On 15 October 1991, just as Saturn entered Aquarius, Bosnia and Herzegovina declared sovereignty, and on 3 March 1992, under the auspices of the malefic Mars-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius, B&H would secede from Yugoslavia. As soon as this Mars-Saturn conjunction will become exact, around 7 March 1992, the opening shots of a bloody civil war occur, with Serb paramilitary forces attacking Bosniak villages. Mars-Saturn is not done yet. As Mars would exactly oppose Saturn (and with both the planets in Mars' bounds) on 11 July 1995, a horrific massacre of thousands of Bosniak Muslim men and boys would start, known in history as the Srebrenica massacre. Mars-Saturn would go on to play another role, this time a more constructive one, with both being in the bounds of peacemaker Venus and being squared loosely by Jupiter, as the signing of a ceasefire agreement, called as the Washington Agreement, which would also establish the autonomous entity of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Finally, things come to normalcy in November-December 1995 with the signing of the Dayton Accords, with Saturn in a square with Mars-Venus-Jupiter conjunction on 21 November 1995.

So what next?

Saturn enters Aries tomorrow, its fall, and while I do not anticipate anything immediate, I do foresee a strong rise in separatist rhetoric (and then a subsequent reaction to it) in Bosnia (i.e., the country of Bosnia-Herzegovina) in the coming months. While October 2025 may bring incidents, my main concern is what happens after February 2026, when Saturn re-enters Aries. In early April 2026, Mars will be on the contra-antiscion of Saturn-Neptune conjunction (with Mercury trining Jupiter, and the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in a loose square with Jupiter): this looks a difficult period for the world in general, including the Balkans. Thereafter, in late April 2026, that dreaded Mars-Saturn conjunction will come, with Mercury this time, and with Neptune still in a loose conjunction, Jupiter in a loose square and Pluto in a close sextile. This may be a period when something violent may trigger in Bosnia or even the wider Balkans region, and in fact this may be a challenging period for quite a few parts of the world as well as for stock markets and gold prices in general.

I hope that if any intelligent and influential Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats are reading this, they try to influence the politics of their country towards peace. (And this applies to any region in the world.) For while there is usually never a good time for war, 2025-2026 is certainly not the time for it, especially not 2026. For any conflict, anywhere (especially those regions whose traditional ruler is Saturn, which includes many parts of the Balkans, the Punjab-Kashmir-Afghanistan region of the Indian subcontinent, parts of Iran, parts of the Levant, Russia and the Baltic states, and parts of Germany). Doing so may blow up beyond your expectations, so don't do it, at all.
