Uranus in Gemini (2025-2033): a time of power struggles, and dramatic advances in communication; a potential period of seismic changes for India

For astrologers following the tropical zodiac, Uranus entered Gemini on July 7, 2025, and apart from a six-month interval in late 2025-early 2026 period, will now be in the sign till May 22, 2033.

Gemini is a sign that is ruled by Mercury, the planet that signifies communication, and thus, also, by extension, negotiation, diplomacy, borders and border issues, relations between peoples and nations, etc. Uranus signifies dramatic changes in the status quo. With all the cocktail of outer planets that we already have (see my earlier posts regarding Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Aries, Neptune in Aries, Neptune-Saturn conjunction and Neptune-Pluto conjunction cycles), with Neptune and Pluto especially to stay in the signs they are in while Uranus completes its movement through Gemini, the 2025-2033 period promises to be a quite explosive period for the world in terms of conflicts & wars and in the fields of communication.

Let us take the fields of communication first. We are already familiar with the rapid advances made in the past couple of years in the field of artificial intelligence. Fields of communication, including AI, medical technology (especially as related to fields like gene sequencing, ageing and skin and hormonal issues) and space technology, should see groundbreaking developments, but at the same time there may be currently used AI approaches or some AI firms that may receive a check, for Uranus also brings disruption, and there may be firms currently that may not be approaching AI in the right manner (e.g., simply increasing the GPUs and hoping that scaling would bring them to artificial general intelligence, AGI). Thus, while AI, in particular, may advance dramatically during a subperiod of 2025-2029, it may not necessarily be in the way many of us foresee it now, or with the same actors that are dominant today: some may fall by the wayside during the overall 2025-2033 period, especially in a subperiod of 2030-2032.

Communication also involves the media, including cinema, and this period may see dramatic changes in the world of media production and dissemination. Films and music, especially in a subperiod till the end of 2028, but overall, throughout this period, may become darker and sharper, or about more sombre topics, but at the same time more conversationalist in a way.

Communication is also literal movement of people, waves, etc.: means of transport, gadgets of communication, etc. Expect strong technological developments and new inventions in these spheres. Expect strong developments in warfare technology, for example, drones used to attack another party, for they too are a means of (destructive) communication.

Now let us look at the political and societal impact, which in some regions, like India, would be huge. Uranus in Gemini traditionally brings strong events of power equilibrium changes: there are significant revolutions, wars and conflicts, or change in status quo through other means, especially as related to borders. Much of the World War II was fought with Uranus in Gemini, and the American War of Independence, back in 1775, had also started there. The United States and Mesoamerican region (Mexico and Central America) should see strong changes in this period, and new conflicts (both internal and external) and border issues may arise. Conflicts, anyway, should be the theme for the whole world, overall, in this entire period. The Middle East may see a strong surge of religious activity during this period, which may join in a strong urge of independence in the region from U.S. domination that has characterised the region over the past few decades: aiding that may be significant changes in climate and landscape, as I anticipate plentiful rains in the Sahara for the next few decades beginning from 2026, and a global cooling cycle, overall. (Some of the ruling families in the Gulf region should take note soon enough, or this wave of religion and thirst for independence may sweep them aside.)

History shows that religion, usually, which also is a form of communication between man and higher powers on the one hand, and an instrument to obtain political power on the other hand, plays a significant role and sees power struggles between religious factions or creeds when Uranus is in Gemini. The struggles between Reformation and Counter-Reformation (Protestantism and Catholicism) were at their peak in the 16th century during such a period.

Finally, we come to India. Just as Neptune-Saturn conjunctions bring seismic shifts for Russia, so do Uranus-in-Gemini periods for India. The Maurya Empiore was founded in around 320 BC, just as Uranus was entering Gemini. The empire declined when Ashoka the Great died around 232 BC, again with Uranus in Gemini. The Chola Empire was born just as Uranus was about to enter Gemini. The Chaulukya dynasty (the Solanki dynasty) would also start with Uranus in Gemini. The Mughal Empire was born during such a period, after the First Battle of Panipat on a fateful April day in 1526, as Babur would gain a decisive victory over Delhi Sultanate's Ibrahim Lodi. So was the British Raj formed in a Uranus-in-Gemini period, soon after the 1857 Revolt. And, to top it all, India was reborn in its new nation-state form in 1947, after one of the bloodiest events of human history, the India-Pakistan Partition, again with Uranus being in Gemini. [It is to be noted that the Partition displaced up to 20 million people and led to the deaths of up to 2 million people: a shocking dereliction of responsibility, probably a deliberate one, by the British. The Partition—the displacement, the subsequent enmity at border that persists until today between India and Pakistan and the power struggle between differing worldviews informed by religion (secular Indian state on the one hand, religious Pakistani state on the other hand)—was an extreme but typical Uranus in Gemini event.] Thus, the yoke of colonialism was both put upon (the commencement of British Raj in 1858) and removed from (independence in 1947) India during a Uranus-in-Gemini period: Uranus changes the status quo. Since those heady times of the 1947 independence, it is the first time that India will again be entering the Uranus in Gemini period.

Right from the Mauryan dynasty, through to the Mughals, and then to the British Raj, and then on to the formation of the modern-nation states of India and Pakistan: for those who know India, you cannot think of more seminal moments in India's long history, and you may have realised how seismic Uranus in Gemini is for India. Note that when I say India, I mean mostly the Indian subcontinent, in particular India and Pakistan.

Another feature when it comes to India in the Uranus in Gemini period is famines. The infamous 1943 Bengal famine, in which up to 3.8 million people are estimated to have died, one of the most notorious blots on British colonial history, and the Upper Doab famine of 1860-61, both happened during such periods. (I have noticed that India also suffers often from big famines during the periods when Uranus is in the other Mercury-ruled sign, Virgo.) I hope there is not another famine, but the years 2026-2027 do look dicey for India on the charts on the monsoon front (extremely little or extremely much). Of course, famines may occur even when rains are sufficient and crop production decent, as evidenced by the frequent famines that occurred during the British rule of India, yet another mismanagement, often deliberate. (Sometimes, famines may even occur as a result of floods, when logistics and infrastructure are poor!)

Thus, the 2025-2033 period may prove to be a dramatic history-shifting period in India's history. The Middle East may also see strong changes, including a surge of nationalism and religion, resulting probably in revolts and sweeping away of dynasties that are perceived by the local populaces as towing foreign or un-Islamic interests. The United States, Mexico and the broad Central American region may also see strong effects, in the form of conflicts and natural disasters. This period may, overall, bring several conflicts, internal and external, to several regions of the world. And it may bring strong technological advancements in fields such as communication, transportation, warfare, medical technology, and space technology.
