Maharashtra elections (India): The Election Day chart

On November 20, 2024, the state of Maharashtra, one of the richest provinces of India, which also contains India's financial capital Mumbai, will go to polls. It is a very key election for not only Maharashtra but also India itself. There are several players in the fray, with both national and regional parties and leaders having a strong standing among the populace. This post is regarding the astrology of the Election Day itself.

This post does not contain any prediction. I have charts only for the BJP, Uddhav Thackeray and the state of Maharashtra. I do not have charts for other key people involved in this election, such as Sharad Pawar, Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule or even Aaditya Thackeray, as I do not know their birth times. With so much data absent, no prediction can be made.

This post is about what the chart for the Election Day itself says, assuming that the election will take place on November 20, 2024, and that voting will start at 7 in the morning. (Much of this analysis will not be valid if, let's say, voting starts even one minute later, at 7:01 am, so that's another element because of which any attempt to predict is futile.)

Let's begin.

The Election Day 7 am chart itself does not look great for the ruling dispensation, which is the Mahayuti combination (BJP along with the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP). Let's look at the chart:

Pluto will have just entered Aquarius, hours before the voting starts. Thus, the Mars-Pluto opposition is across the 4H-10H axis. The 10H denotes the ruling power. It is here being affected by the malefic Mars, which is in an opposition from another malefic, Pluto. If the election had been on November 19 instead of November 20, Pluto would still have been in Capricorn, but Mars still in Leo, thus unable to form the Mars-Pluto combination. For the non-astrologers out there, Mars brings energy and aggression, Pluto brings radical wipeout, new beginnings.

Now one could also try to interpret this Mars-Pluto opposition in a positive way: one could assume the BJP representing a Plutonic force and Mars thus giving energy to this. Now if this were to be happening in the BJP's transit chart, I could have considered that. But this is the event chart, the chart for the election day, not BJP's chart. In this chart, the 10th house is representing the ruler, the 4th house the people. If the chart had been reversed, with Mars in 4H and Pluto in 10H, I would have said that the people are unfortunate or terrified and the ruler wielding immense power. But here, it is the Mars in 10H and Pluto in 4H, and the power looks with the people. Note also that Saturn is not too far from the nadir (if I were to create this chart with the Placidus system, Saturn would occupy the 4th house, which would not be good for the ruler).

Let us look also at the ruler of the Midheaven (MC), for Midheaven is what denotes the acme of power. Mercury, the Midheaven's ruler in the chart, is in detriment and in mutual reception with Jupiter (obviously, also in detriment). Now, I think some astrologers regard the detriment to be cancelled out in such a case, but I and some other astrologers think it a very unfortunate condition, a mutual reception of planets in detriment.

What else do we see? We also see another opposition playing out on angles: Sun-Uranus across Ascendant-Descendant. In my opinion, Uranus being so close to the Descendant and with the Sun's light right on it is giving much power to the opposition (the 7th house). For the non-astrologers out there, Uranus brings explosive, dramatic change in the status quo.

As this is an event chart, let's look at the Moon, which reflects how the events shall conduct themselves. If one were to only consider the traditional planets, the Moon, which is its own domicile Cancer, is void of course. Which means not obtaining desired result. If one assumes that the Election Commission's desire was to help the BJP, then the EC is not getting its desired result in the chart. If one assumes that the EC was neutral and its only desire was conducting a free, fair and smooth election, then the election process itself may see turbulence. But I think the former assumption is more correct than the latter assumption, but I leave it to the reader. Now if we do consider modern planets, then the Moon is not void but its first contact will be a sextile to Uranus and its final contact will be a trine to Neptune before it exits Cancer. Thus, drama or surprise comes first, and then confusion or disappointment. For the non-astrologer, Neptune, among other things, brings delusion, deception, the fog. Note also that the Ascendant is at the anaretic 29 degree. Is the election being conducted a bit too late?

Let us now bring a couple of other data points other than the Election Day chart. These are about solar arcs and midpoints, so a bit more technical, not necessarily for the non-astrologer. On November 23, 2024, when the counting of votes is scheduled to take place, for the BJP, SA MC=Ascendant/Saturn. One would assume such a configuration if the BJP's allies were to desert it around that time. One must also remember that Pluto will have entered the 8th house in BJP's chart, going from 7th house, where it has been since 2008. (The 2014 national elections were won by the BJP when Jupiter-Pluto opposition played across its 1H-7H axis. I remind you of this in order to drive home the central importance of Pluto for the BJP. Neptune, too, is important for the BJP, but not as a trigger.) Coming to Uddhav Thackeray's chart, SA Uranus=transit Mars/Uranus=Aries Point. Is there a change or excitement in his circle of family, friends and allies? In addition, transit Kronos=SA MC. Kronos, among other things, signifies leadership.

I will again reiterate that, given the absence of a lot of data, I am not making any predictions at all. However, I will say that the Election Commission may have erred in holding the elections in Maharashtra so late if it wanted to favour the BJP. Astrologically, things would have been far better for the BJP if Maharashtra elections, at least the voting if not the counting, had been completed by November 19. The day of November 20 may only be a day from November 19, but astrologically the world will have entered another phase, with Pluto to remain in Aquarius till around 2043-44!
