Weather watch: 14-23 Dec 2024

Note: Prediction periods are not ON-OFF switches. Thus, if some prediction period starts from, let us say, 15 October, it is not that things cannot happen on 13 or 14 October. You may head to the Terminology page to make sure you understand what I mean when I name some particular city or region in these advance weather warning bulletins.

Astrometeorological predictions for the period 14-23 Dec 2024:

• Northeastern and northern Queensland and nearby Papua New Guinea and Papua may experience heavy rains.
• Parts of Northern Territory, especially the area around Alice Springs, may see heavy rains.
• The coast of South Australia, especially the region around Adelaide, may see very heavy rains.
• The Korean Peninsula and the southern half of Japan could see heavy precipitation.
• Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces and parts of Liaoning could see very heavy snowfall.
• High winds possible in central China, especially in Sichuan-Hubei area.
• Possibility of an earthquake in Sichuan-Yunnan-Hubei-Guizhou area.
• Heavy snowfall probable in eastern Tibet, Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Bhutan.
• Northeastern India, Bhutan or eastern Tibet could also see a strong earthquake.
• Heavy rainfall or a storm possible in Bangladesh or neighbouring coastal areas of India and Myanmar.
• Eastern Nepal may see a storm or strong precipitation. Neighbouring Bihar and Jharkhand, too, may see some effects. It may be cold and wet in most of Uttar Pradesh.
• The southeastern coastline of India, that is, Odisha-Andhra-Tamil Nadu coastline, could see a storm or violent rains.
• Much of Azerbaijan, Georgia and southern Russia may see heavy precipitation. Also applicable to Armenia and the Tabriz region of Iran.
• Parts of Iraq may see heavy precipitation.
• Eastern Turkey could see heavy snowfall. Strong winds possible in western Turkey.
• The hilly areas and northern plain in Bosnia and Herzegovina may receive heavy precipitation. Eastern Croatia, eastern Austria and much of Hungary, too, may also experience the same.
• The Bari-Catanzaro region in Italy may receive heavy precipitation or experience a storm.
• Strong possibility of an earthquake in Italy. The Rome-Pescara area looks the most vulnerable. Bologna, Florence and Pisa, too, are not far from this vulnerable-looking area.
• Possibility of seismic activity (volcanic eruption or earthquake) in Iceland.
• Very heavy snowfall in several parts of Greenland.
• Barbados may see heavy rains accompanied by high winds.
• Heavy rains in northeastern and parts of central Brazil. The states of Maranhão and Pará look particularly exposed on the charts, with an earthquake also possible. Nearby Surinam and French Guyana could also experience heavy rains.
• Parts of Newfoundland (Canada) may see very heavy snowfall and/or a landslide.
• Cuba and the Gulf of Mexico region may see heavy precipitation or a storm. The Texas to Florida coastline looks exposed. Yucatán Peninsula may see heavy rain or a storm.
• Alaska Panhandle and neighbouring areas of Canada may receive very heavy snowfall.
• Much of remaining Alaska as well as much of Yukon to also receive extremely heavy snowfall.
