Popstar Katy Perry's scheduled space trip: a difficult time selected for liftoff?

Blue Origin has announced its 11th human flight, NS-31, will lift off from Launch Site One on April 14, 2025. The New Shepard launch window is planned to open at 8:30 a.m. CDT (13:30 UTC). The all-female-crewed mission includes popstar Katy Perry, television personality Gayle King, journalist Lauren Sánchez, entrepreneurs Aisha Bowe and Amanda Nguyễn, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

Here is the chart for the planned time of the liftoff:

This looks to me a singularly unfortunate time for the liftoff. I often advise clients on when they should commence journeys (something called electional astrology), and this is one of the worst moments I could think of for starting a journey. I hope for the sake of the space flight crew that the liftoff is rescheduled or delayed significantly.

The ruler of the Ascendant is in a tight conjunction with Saturn, while an angular Mars and Moon, both afflicted, dominate the chart. If the liftoff is delayed by up to around 1.5 hours, still Mars-Pluto would be aligned with the 3H-9H axis (the axis of movement and journeys). Thus, any delay has to be significant to make the chart pleasanter, of much more than 1.5 hours. If the liftoff happens before 8:30 am, then at least the 3-9 axis is not afflicted, but still all of Mars, Pluto and Moon will be occupying angular houses, and malefics occupying angular houses is not desirable for most purposes, not just space flights.

To go back to the 8:30 am planned liftoff time, note also that Mars is receiving square aspect from Sun from the 12th. The Sun is the ruler of 5th house, the 9th from 9th, and for me, a journey into space needs to take into account the 5th house, especially given that this journey is being made by the crew of women for "fun," not for work or any other purpose, thus tying into the 5th house's usual significations.

Talking of the Moon again, note that it is blind to Jupiter, thus unable to receive any kind of Jupiter's beneficence. In addition, the planetary hour will be that of this afflicted and angular Moon. (If delayed by a few minutes, it would change to Saturn, not a planet apt for the results one would want from a space flight.) Note also that Mercury, the planet of movement, is on the contra-antiscion of Neptune, the planet of dashed hopes, confusion and air accidents, and is in a tight conjunction with Saturn, the planet of restrictions and grounding (rather than soaring). Talking of contra-antiscia, Uranus, too, is on one of Pluto, but let us disregard that for now. Instead, let us have a brief look at the charts of two of the crew, Katy Perry and Gayle King, whose birth times are known and thus charts can be created.

Perry's birth data, born on October 25, 1984, at 7:58 AM PDT, in Santa Barbara, CA, USA, looks very reliable, as when I look at some of the major happenings in her life, the chart reflects them very faithfully, including her career breakthrough in 2008 and her divorce in 2011-12. Hence, it would be a good idea to look also at what Perry's chart say.

Let us look at her natal chart and transits for the day first:

Let us focus on the inner wheel only first, her natal chart. In her natal chart, you will see an excellent Venus in her 2nd house, in the bound and domicile of Jupiter, which may be in fall in the 3rd house but is in the bound of Jupiter itself, thus affording Jupiter some freedom. That is, Venus is not that much afflicted, but it is somewhat afflicted, and its ruler Jupiter is a bit more afflicted, though still retains some freedom: the 2nd house is about one's resources, thus while Perry has made money from singing, a 2nd house profession, she has also battled with depression and mental health issues. Now note the 3rd house. It is occupied with this kind-of-afflicted Jupiter but which is in conjunction with a malefic, which is an exalted Mars, which rules her 1st house (body and personality) and 6th house (daily routine and work). This makes the Mars even better, but not so much the Jupiter, which, one must note, is also out of sect. The 3rd house, the house of movement in the natal chart, is thus afflicted to quite an extent, especially given that its ruler Saturn is peregrine and out of sect, occupying the 1st house. That 1st house is in fact a stellium, indicating here a person very attentive to herself, her needs and her projected image. (This ties in also with the depression part.) The 3rd house, among other things, also shows early (school) education, and the restrictive sign of Capricorn there indicates the religious schools she attended, though an exalted Mars there made her move a lot, too. In summary, her birth chart (note also the extremely angular Mercury) indicates a life full of movement (I guess her singing career, too, makes her travel a lot), but at the same time restrictions and danger associated with it, given that Mercury rules her 8th house (and the aforementioned Saturn, too, finds itself in the bounds of Mercury). I am not going to delineate the complete chart of Perry, but I simply wanted to show to those readers who are not into astrology how one starts deconstructing a chart. The primary purpose here was to judge how movement is signified in her natal chart, which we have done: lots, but also with possible danger and involving or causing restrictions.

Now let us look at the transits. The Moon will have just gone past the natal Ascendant and will be in conjunction with Mercury at the scheduled time of liftoff. A Moon that is in fall. This looks quite difficult to me, as I give a lot of importance to the Moon in transits. Mars is transiting the 9th (long distance journey), Saturn the 5th (9th of 9th), and Mercury is exactly squaring Neptune (the planet of air travel, but also in her case affecting the 3rd house strongly on account of being at an anaretic degree in the 2nd house). The transits, in short, don't look good.

Now let us look at her yearly profection:

It is interesting that she is in her 5th house profection year, and as I said, even if many astrologers won't agree, I consider 5th house as relevant for a space flight. This also means that her profected 9th house maps to the natal 1st house now! What the 5th house profection also means that her Mercury "moves to" the sign of Pisces, where Mercury is in both fall and detriment. This does not look good again!

When I next look at the solar return chart (not shown here), her SR Ascendant lies in her natal 9th house, indicating long-distance journey to be a possible theme of the year. In SR standalone chart, a retrograde Saturn occupies the 8th house, whose ruler is a retrograde Jupiter in 11th house. The ruler of 8th in the 11th in an SR chart can often show unfortunate incidents in that year, especially given that both planets here are retrograde as well as not very well dignified.

To end with solar arcs, one concerning thing I find is Neptune arcing to her natal Ascendant. Even though this is an artist, for whom Neptune can bring positive moves, but here the arc is not to the Midheaven but the Ascendant, and I don't like it.

Finally, let us look a little bit at Gayle King's charts. The following is the yearly profection for King:

King is in her 11th house profection year, which, in other words, means that her profected 3rd house maps to the natal 1st house now! Note that Saturn has "moved to" her natal 9th house now with the profection, this Saturn has no dignity at this location.

King has a powerful, angular Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in her natal chart, with Jupiter ruling her 3rd house, thus making it easily understandable how she made a great career and money in media work (3rd house, the house of media affairs). Now, the very same Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is in tight conjunction with transit Mars, and remember that that 3rd house is not only media affairs, but also movement. And then when you look at King's solar arcs, the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is arcing to her Mercury, which not only is the planet of journeys by default but also rules her 6th and 9th houses (health and long-distance journey, respectively).

To end this discussion, let me also remind you of what I have already predicted (here) for the period of 12th to 21st of April, in general: a more than usual accident-prone period, overall, for the world (but which could also mean something high-profile instead).

I began this discussion looking at the chart for the scheduled liftoff for the New Shepard launch mission, with the crew on board the space flight including celebrities such as Katy Perry and Gayle King. The chart looks extremely unfortunate, so I also looked at Perry's and King's charts. Their charts do not alleviate the trouble seen in the liftoff chart.

I hope the space flight is rescheduled before it can lift off, as things look dangerous. Maybe and hopefully, nothing untoward happens. But the currently planned time is not appropriate and something I would strongly advise against for any client.
