Neptune-Saturn conjunctions and their impact on modern histories of Russia & China

Saturn and Neptune are both outer planets (i.e., bodies in the solar system that are beyond Earth, namely Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). They orbit slowly around the Sun, Neptune particularly so. When outer planets come together, they mark important cycles for the Earth's weather and history. In the case of Neptune and Saturn, they meet each other ("conjunction") every 36 years or so. On February 20, 2026, they will be exactly conjunct each other in the sign of Aries. The last time that Neptune and Saturn met each other in the sign of Aries was in 1703 (i.e., more than 300 years ago), and before that was in 1380 (again, a gap of more than 300 years). And even before back was in the years 555 (a gap of more than 800 years!) and 232 (back to a gap of 300+ years). Thus, since the beginning of the Common Era, in other words, since the birth of Christ—in fact, in more than 2,500 years—Neptune and Saturn will be meeting each other in the sign of Aries only for the fifth time. This would probably give you an idea how the conjunctions can mark important shifts in world history and weather, and also the years when these conjunctions happen can be very important for certain parts of the world, certain areas of life, certain weather or nature patterns, etc.
Even as of the time of writing this, Neptune and Saturn are in a loose conjunction currently, right now in the sign of Pisces, but by the end of May 2025 (on May 25, 2025, to be more precise), both planets will have moved to the sign of Aries, forming a very close conjunction for a large period of the remaining year, before making an exact conjunction on February 20, 2026. They will remain in a very close conjunction after that for some time, before the conjunction starting to loosen up, and they will remain in this loose conjunction until the early months of 2027.
History suggests that when Neptune and Saturn come very close to each other, and they are already so, and they will be even more so from May 2025 to April 2026 (with no separation at all on February 20, 2026), it has a huge impact on the course of destiny of two nations—Russia and China—among other things.
Let us look first at the four previous years of exact conjunction of Neptune and Saturn: 1882, 1917, 1952, and 1989. History buffs may already recognise some of these years as big years in human history, especially for Russia and China. Note that events do not have to happen in the month or year of the exact conjunction: as Neptune and Saturn come very close to each other, events can happen a year before the conjunction year or, sometimes, in the year after the conjunction year.
So let us see what happened in Russia and China around these years: 1882, 1917, 1952 and 1989.
Russia
1881: Alexander II, the most liberal emperor (tsar) that Russia ever saw, was assassinated, which changed drastically the course of Russian and European history. In 1894, when Pluto and Neptune would have come very close to each other (another major cycle is Pluto and Neptune, but we are not concerned with that in this post), Nicholas II, who would eventually be the last tsar of Russia, would ascend the throne.
1917: Should one even say anything about this seminal year in world history? The year of the Russian Revolution, or the Bolshevik Revolution, which abolished monarchy in Russia and paved the way for the formation of the USSR in the future.
1952-53: Another date well remembered for anyone who's read about USSR. Joseph Stalin was General Secretary of the Communist Party till October 1952, and then in early 1953, he died. Yet another huge turn of events for the Russian nation.
1989-1991: Liberal democracy movements began in the USSR and Eastern Europe, with the first one happening in 1989 itself in Kazakhstan, then part of USSR. Eventually, the Soviet Union would dissolve in 1991, and once again, Russian history will have taken a huge turn.
2025-27: So what would happen during this time frame? Something momentous, I am sure, that would give a huge turn, again, to Russia's fate. An end to the Putin era is highly likely, which may be followed by a significant turn of Russian history towards a new state or constitutional structure or boundaries. You will get a brief glimpse of what I think could happen in my Spring 2025 predictions for Russia, and if you are following this content, in my predictions to be published for the future seasons. I suspect that the chief events would happen in 2025 or 2026 itself, and not wait for 2027, given that this time the conjunction would be happening at 0 degree Aries, a sign in which neither Neptune nor Saturn is comfortable and a degree where impact can be rapid, erratic and severe.
Another pattern one noticed here is that the events that occupy Russia during Neptune-Saturn conjunction years are mostly internal events. (And seismic events, completely pivoting Russia's history!)
Now let's get to China, which somehow does not get that much attention of Western astrologers, especially when compared to Russia.
China
1881: The Treaty of Saint Petersburg, also known as the Treaty of Ili, was signed between ... who else than ... Russia and China! The treaty is considered as a significant loss for Russia, and it gave unexpected (re)gains of territory for Qing dynasty-controlled China. We had mentioned the 1894 Pluto-Neptune conjunction for Russia, so let us mention it here as well for China. In the case of China, the country went through the First Sino-Japanese War in 1894-95, which resulted in China having to cede Taiwan to Japan and recognise Korean independence.
1916-17: Yuan Shikai dies, throwing China into what is called as the Warlord Era (军阀割据时期), a very chaotic period of power struggle which only ended in 1928, when Neptune would trine Jupiter. However, the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction of August 1927 (again an outer cycle which we are not concerned with here) would have already started the long Chinese Civil War (国共内战) between the Kuomintang (who would eventually flee to Taiwan) and Chinese Communist Party (who would be the eventual victors and rule Beijing from 1949 onwards). December 7, 1949, the date when the CCP would gain complete control on mainland China, is when Jupiter would be exactly conjunct Venus in the sign of Aquarius (where Jupiter is a triplicity ruler and Venus, too, had some dignity, being in its decan, plus Aquarius being a fixed sign, gave a lasting impact to the new Chinese state being born).
1952-53: While Mao Zedong had already founded China in 1949, China could focus more properly on itself only in 1953, when the Korean War ended. On July 27, 1953, when the war ended, Saturn and Neptune were in almost exact conjunction, with only 12 arcminutes separating them. China launched its First Five-Year Plan in 1953, the beginning of the industralisation of China at a huge scale.
1989: This is a date known to even those who do not know much about China. The year when the June Fourth incident (六四事件), known in the West as the Tiananmen Square protests, happened. Protestors had received significant foreign support, including that of the Western powers' intelligence agencies CIA and MI6. Pro-reform General Secretary Hu Yaobang died, and Deng Xiaoping, the man who made China the power it is today, retired. Neptune trine Jupiter would again mark a moment of relief for China, when in early 1992 Deng would do his famous Southern Tour (邓小平南巡 or 南巡), which would resume China on the path of market reforms and opening up that Deng had introduced and that today has made China the world power it is. If that tour had not happened, not only Chinese history but world history would be completely different today.
2025-27: So what happens next during this time frame? A pattern that emerges regarding China is that Neptune-Saturn conjunctions often produce or involve balance of power incidents or relations with foreign countries. Also, in the case of China, they are very important events, but they are not dramatic, seismic events, unlike Russia. Thus, one strong probability that emerges is that China might make a move on regaining Taiwan during this time frame. What complicates this picture is that this Neptune-Saturn conjunction would also be in a very loose trine with Jupiter during late 2026 and early 2027. We have seen that Neptune-Jupiter trines bring a moment of relief and benefit to China. We may infer that if the Taiwan move happens, it would be successful and may bring a moment of consolidation of power for China.
I plan to publish my predictions tomorrow on China for the next six months. Let's see what I find in that.
I encourage the readers to play with astrological patterns and apply them to different countries, weather, companies and even stocks, and, of course, their own lives. (However, an individual human life is yet not long enough that much can be gleaned from some of the outer planets' cycles; however, human history is.) You will find much rich material. If any reader is engaged in machine learning and artificial intelligence, let the machine figure out patterns between planetary movements and human history: you just need to feed as training data the history events in detail for a particular region (or the world, if it can take so much data) and the data from a reliable ephemeris (which tells you where a planet is at what moment). There is a lot that can be figured out by machines themselves, if trained properly. You would do much service to the world and to the science of astrology.
Please also consider supporting my work through a paid subscription or generous donation. Donations help me significantly to focus on my craft and astrological research; donations help me stay away from clickbait stuff, help me stay away from spending my finite time on making TikTok videos. I do not want to go the TikTok way even if it brings more popularity, for it may also take me and my time away from dedication to the craft of astrology. However, if you do not have the means to make a donation, at least do consider taking out a paid subscription, which costs only US$3.99 per month: you may subscribe by clicking here.
An update on Russia:
A reader wrote to me to point out the importance of 1703, the last Neptune-Saturn conjunction in the sign of Aries, in Russian history: the founding of St. Petersburg, and a time when the Great Northern War had been going on (which would eventually lead to the curtailing of Swedish power in the area). I had not gone so far back into history, but given that I am now going back so far, let me go farther back to 1380, the next previous Neptune-Saturn conjunction in the sign of Aries. What happened? The Battle of Kulikovo, which the Russians won against the Mongols, marking a turning point in history, with Russia's power rising and the Mongol power starting to wane. If I go to the next one, in the year 555, that was the year when the Rouran Khaganate ended, establishing the supremacy of the First Turkic Khaganate, holding power over large parts of what is Russia today.
Another interesting thing: Ivan the Terrible's influence on Moscow/Russia lasted from 1533 to 1584, bookended by Neptune-Saturn trines. January 1547, when he was coronated as the tsar, saw the Neptune-Mars conjunction in the sign of Aries!
If you keep delving into Russian history, you will find numerous other examples of the strong influence of Neptune-Saturn cycles on it.
An update on China:
The day after publishing this post, I published my predictions for China during the period from late March 2025 to late September 2025. They can be read here.
Note: Regularly updated lists of some of my successful predictions in the past can be found here. They include Trump win, South Korea martial law events, Israel's recent successes in military affairs, collapse of governments in Canada and Norway, the fall of several other leaders, several elections correctly called, and numerous earthquakes and other natural disasters.
Forward to a friend and let them know about how they can subscribe. (Hint: It's here.) For weather & earthquake predictions, head over here. For my palmistry page, you may go here.
Maybe you happen to know some journalist or influencer? Do not be hesitant to forward to them this content!
And do you happen to know of events that matched my predictions? Email me the details of this event!
And if you want me to increase the range of the countries and types of predictions I cover, as well as their accuracy (notably regarding dates of events), one of the best ways is to make a generous donation if you can afford it. It would be greatly appreciated as very few astrologers practise mundane astrology.
